Toll-free Business Registration Number required (since Feb 17, 2026): fix Twilio 30527
Short answer
Since February 17, 2026, every new toll-free verification at Twilio, Bandwidth and Telnyx needs a Business Registration Number: for US businesses, the 9-digit EIN, plus its type, issuing country and entity type. The legal name must match the IRS record exactly. Sole proprietors are exempt at Twilio and Bandwidth.
What you'll see
| Where | Code | Wording |
|---|---|---|
| Twilio | 30527 | “Toll Free verification rejection - Business Registration Number is Missing or Invalid” |
| Twilio | 30530 | “Selected legal entity type does not match your business records” |
| Twilio | 30472 | “Business Registration Details Are Missing or Invalid” (FAQ wording; the dictionary says “Could not verify Business”) |
| Bandwidth | 1112 | BRN fields missing or incomplete (BRN without type, country and entity type is rejected) |
| Telnyx | “Business registration number is missing or invalid”; the API returns HTTP 400 without the three BRN fields |
Text in curly quotes is the provider's wording; the rest is our summary.
Why it happens
- BRN left blank on a request created after February 17, 2026.
- The legal name is the DBA or has a typo, so it doesn't match the EIN record.
- The EIN is new and doesn't pass IRS matching yet. Twilio says this can take up to two weeks, and Telnyx cites companies under six months old.
- Entity type doesn't match: sole proprietor selected for an LLC, or the reverse (30530).
- BRN entered without its type (EIN) or issuing country (US).
How to fix it
- Enter the legal name exactly as on the IRS CP 575 or 147C letter, and the DBA in its own field.
- Fill all BRN fields: number (9-digit EIN, no dashes unless the form asks), type “EIN”, country “US”, and the right entity type.
- If the EIN is new, wait until it passes matching, or attach the CP 575. For new-company rejections, Telnyx asks you not to resubmit but to email its toll-free team with the registration document.
- Sole proprietors: select the sole proprietor entity type and leave BRN blank at Twilio and Bandwidth. Telnyx's docs mention SSN as a BRN type, and its support may ask for ID verification.
- Resubmit within 7 days at Twilio to keep priority review.
Conflicting guidance: HighLevel's toll-free guide (updated September 17, 2026) still says A business tax ID or EIN is not required to complete Toll-Free Verification
, while its own rejection list includes 30527. Twilio, Bandwidth and Telnyx all require the BRN for new submissions, so fill it in.
Check before you resubmit. Every rejection costs days, and often another $15 vetting fee. Paste your description, message flow, samples and policy text into the free preflight check, or generate a consistent set with the campaign builder.
Frequently asked questions
Do verified toll-free numbers need to add a BRN?
The February 17, 2026 rule applies to new submissions. Twilio's BRN article says some optional fields are expected to become required later, so keep your details ready.
What if I'm a sole proprietor with no EIN?
Twilio and Bandwidth exempt the sole proprietor entity type from the BRN. Bandwidth supports sole proprietors only for US entities, and Sinch warns of extra vetting.
Is the BRN the same as my state business license number?
For US businesses, use the federal EIN. Non-US businesses use their national registry or tax number with the matching type.
